Fall/Winter 2022 UI/UX Design Intern
I interned on the UI/UX Design team where I worked on a variety of different physical and web-based products to improve the user’s experience and accessibility to various services and products.
I had an awesome experience starting off my design career at Vooya. I spent a total of 6 months designing and envisioning various experiences and interfaces for products that were in the pipeline. Some notable projects included, redesigning the passion personality assessment, designing multiple new features on their website, as well as redesigning the entire interface for their upcoming Vooya Stories Web App. I developed skills in graphic, print, and UI/UX design through different softwares, created design systems, and collaborated cross-functionally across teams.
Context
🔮 Overview
Vooya is a counseling company that provides services both online and offline involving passion personality assessments, coaching, consulting, webinars, study tours, etc. The three main projects that I worked on were the assessment print redesign, adding new screens and features to the website as well as building the foundation of their new web app from the ground up.
I leveraged InDesign and Illustrator to revamp the existing passion personality assessment, conducted a case study on assessment, recommendation and quiz tools to get a better perspective on the urgency of new features and designed 100+ wireframes for both the web-app and new website pages including shop, recommendation, profile, dashboard and checkout.
🧑🔧 Stakeholders
Throughout this internship, I worked closely with the founder and CEO Stephanie Wijanarko to suggest new features, designs and update them on my progress with the goal of gaining new perspectives, feedback and input. I also worked alongside Senior UI/UX Designer, Dinda Farradila, on to identify constraints on design and overcome roadblocks. The weekly stand-up meetings served as a great benchmark to keep track of progress and coordinate with the Design team. I also had the opportunity to cross-collaborate with other teams such as Marketing and actually work with clients during consulting sessions to help them navigate through life-changing decisions!
Problems
1. New Features
With the visible plethora of services that Vooya offers, our goal was to conduct a case study and design new ways as well as features of navigation so that users would be able to find the right service fit, promoting acquisition, retention and sales.
2. Vooya Stories
The Challenge: How can we revamp the current layout to support newer users and make it more intuitive?
Vooya Stories is a web app that embodies a goal of inspiration and knowledge acquisition for users depending on their passion personality assessment. Our goal is to make this process more intuitive and explicit for users. In the picture are a few examples of the previous layout.

3. Passion Personality Assessment
The Challenge: How might we improve upon the current layout of the assessment booklet to convey more information that is helpful to customers?
One of our leading products, the Passion Personality Assessment aims to inform test-takers what their ideal career and educational paths are. Our mission was to increase the amount of relevant information so that our customers can learn more about themselves through the test.

📖 Research
To decide what we need, we conducted User and Market Research by creating Mood-boards, analyzing competitor screens/sites and user surveys. My goal here was to create the scope of features and ideate the possibilities.
I conducted user interviews about passion personality assessment experiences to create a list of pain points, solutions and user personas. The survey was conducted on several different age categories from working professionals to students in University. Surprisingly, the majority revealed that they have never taken a career-oriented test some would rather take Bootcamps to develop a specific set of skills.

“A Bootcamp to develop skills would fit me best”
– Student Participant #1
“I have never taken a passion test or attended a career seminar”
– Student Participant #2

New Features
User Personas
I extracted and analyzed data from user research, competitive analysis, user flows and journey maps to create user personas of 8 different qualitative categories representing different professions. This was useful in our ideation for new features and prioritizing pain points to solve for new users.
New Features
Wireframing
I derived the need for selected new features from the user persona based on the pain points and opportunities. To make them user-centric, they heavily focused on recommendation systems and product placement as a means of exposing new users to career-oriented assessments and services. I built wireframes for Checkout, Shop, Community, Dashboard, Profile, Assessment, Emails, Certificate and Recommendation features which were all approved for development.

💡 Ideation
To revamp the current design, I created a design system to promote consistency and ideated new layouts and hierarchies to grow interactivity. I explored new components and modals for both mobile and web layouts to establish the foundation for additional features.
Vooya Stories
Wireframing
I leveraged the components to create functional high-fidelity layouts that compensates for the lack of interactivity from the previous version. I constantly sought feedback from the CEO and Senior UI/UX Designer for any inputs and constructive criticism. I integrated the passion personality assessment results into the web app user dynamic to ensure compatibility between services.

🪑 Tables
I redesigned the Passion Personality Assessment booklet using InDesign and Illustrator. It was a straightforward process with the CEO knowing what she wanted to add. I also gave some inputs to finalize the print design and it was instantly implemented as the new booklet that customers are given.
Outcome
📨 Continuous Flow
After 6 months of continuous product development, it was time for my internship to end. My continuous flow of tickets and tasks came to an end and it was a really awesome experience to see everything I worked on immediately considered and submitted for development. A special shoutout to the my manager and the CEO for trusting me with such impactful projects!
Takeaways
🌊 Projects on Projects
Throughout my tenure at Vooya, I’ve sharpened my skills in strategic design thinking, adeptly engaging stakeholders, conducting thorough user and market analyses, and mastering Graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. My contributions have not only enhanced Vooya’s visual identity and market presence but have also fostered my personal evolution into a versatile and impactful design professional.
Applying for the job, I really didn’t know what to expect. Was this going to be an intensive 4 month program? Was the job I applied to the right one? What kind of work am I gonna do? A lot of questions raced through my mind the moment I got the job but I decided to accept it anyway; excited to plunge deeper into a new experience and my first as a designer.
🏃 Take the Plunge
And you know what, I’m glad I did! I learned so much during this internship that by the end of it I was kind of sad that I had to leave this amazing environment. My mentor and teammate was nothing but kind, supportive and knowledgable. I can say that I’ve learned so much in terms of working in a company, handling multiple products at the same time and most importantly, I’ve become a better product designer.
I am proud of my work during my time at Vooya and I wouldn’t trade this experience for any other. I’ve even started to teach people and applied the skills I’ve learned in this job toward my other endeavors. So if there’s anything I learned through this internship, the most notable one would be “Take the plunge“.
